Bruce Springsteen ha pubblicato a sorpresa sulle sue pagine social un brano dal titolo Streets of Minneapolis (titolo che richiama volutamente un suo grande successo, Streets of Philadelphia, colonna sonora dell’omonimo film uscito nel 1993).
È il suo contributo alla protesta popolare contro le violenze perpetrata dall’ICE, l’agenzia federale statunitense per l’immigrazione. Nel testo, molto esplicito, ci sono riferimenti diretti all’amministrazione federale e al presidente Donald Trump, il principale sostenitore dell’ICE.
Lo scorso 18 gennaio, durante un concerto a Red Bank nel New Jersey, aveva detto: «Gli ideali e i valori degli Stati Uniti sono messi alla prova come non mai. Se siete contrari ad avere agenti con il viso coperto che invadono un città americana usando tattiche da Gestapo contro i cittadini, se credete che non si merita di essere uccisi per esercitare il proprio diritto a manifestare, allora mandate un messaggio a questo presidente e ditegli, come ha fatto il sindaco della città, di mandare via gli agenti dell’ICE».
Già in passato Bruce Springsteen era intervenuto più volte nel dibattito pubblico con la sua musica, rifacendosi agli insegnamenti di grandi del passato come Woody Guthrie e Pete Seeger.
Minneapolis viene descritta come «una città in fiamme», teatro di uno scontro tra «fuoco e ghiaccio sotto gli stivali di un occupante». L’ICE viene definito «l’esercito privato di re Trump».
